Treats don’t have to be unhealthy

Take this dairy, gluten and sugar free, raw dessert, with its oats, seeds and dates base and raw cacao butter with coconut, cashews, almonds, fresh berries and a touch of maple syrup filling.

Admittedly, a little extravagant, but made by my husband Iyasu to celebrate Fathers Day (just the way he wanted it).

The ingredients combined together beautifully to delight the senses, but one in particular made this dessert extra special.

We all know that eating cacao makes you happy!

Cacao not only contains phenylethylamine and magnesium; natural mood enhancers, but also neurotransmitter theobromide, which releases the compound anandamide, known as the bliss molecule, which binds to cannabinoid receptors located throughout our body as part of our endocannabinoid system that are involved in a variety of physiological processes to maintain homeostasis.

In addition to its mood boosting effects, cacao also has an excellent antioxidant content, unfortunately high heat from processing and refining damages its many health benefits, so be mindful of this and enjoy cacao in a variety of different ways; tea, add to smoothies, sprinkle on porridge, add to trial mixes, enjoy a square of pure dark chocolate; content of 70% or more
